Soccer Game at New-To-Me Yankee Stadium

When my friend said he had an extra ticket to an NYCFC soccer game at Yankee Stadium, I was elated. Not only have I not seen my friend for a couple years, but I haven’t been anywhere near the South Bronx since the old Yankee Stadium was in use.

I debated trying to get a tour of the new stadium, but then I learned from thwir website that I will actually get to see more things if I go when it is not baseball season.

So instead, I got to the South Bronx  just early enough to meet my friend at a nearby bar called The Dugout before the game.

The video below is from our walk leaving the stadium.

A quick note about transportation to Yankee Stadium

If you’re coming from New Jersey and you’re not driving to the stadium, it can be rather challenging to get to Yankee Stadium in an easy way. What I discovered on this outing was that I could  get home from the stasium by takung Metro-North from Yankee Stadium to Grand Central in Midtown Manhattan and then it is an easy walk to Port Authority or Penn Station.

THE PODCASTERS

podcast-icon

When I started podcasting it really wasn’t deliberate. I made a recording for a friend about my trip to Italy because I didn’t get to talk to her before she left but wanted to give her tips on what I learned. I recorded what I wanted to tell her in person and emailed her the recording. Then I was like, “Maybe this will help other people” so I posted it to iTunes and that’s how things got rolling.

I decided it was fun to make and made another one. And then another one. And then it just became a thing that I’ve been doing for the past few months.

Then I realized that I should probably listen to other podcasters to see if I can improve my technique.

Not only are the techniques of these podcasters very nice, the content is wonderful, too!

These are the ones I’m hooked on right now. More to come…

Chris Christensen’s Amateur Traveler
http://amateurtraveler.com
This guy is anything BUT an amateur… Great podcasts. Well organized. And don’t worry about running out of episodes. He’s got over 300. He creates both audio and video podcasts.

Gary Bembridge’s “Trips for Travelers”
http://www.tipsfortravellers.com
I found Gary’s website when I was researching how to make my blog and podcast better. He is involved in a group called Travel Bloggers Unite and he recently spoke at a convention about creating better content for travelers. I watched the videos of his lecture from this convention and decided to check out his podcasts which are very rich in information.

The Bowery Boys
http://theboweryboys.blogspot.com/
I was researching podcasts about New York City and found The Bowery Boys, who talk about the history of New York. This isn’t exactly a travel podcast, but it walks a fine line because the history of New York can turn into a walking tour of New York, which are also available from The Bowery Boys. And they are fun to listen to when they banter. 🙂

TBP 0009 New York City – Travel Less Expensive

chelsea market New York City Travel

This week I went into New York City (or “the city” is all you need to say if you’re coming from Northern New Jersey) to sell some of my vinyl records at Chelsea Market. I decided to walk the High Line (see link below for more info) and ended up meeting a German tourist who was in town to explore the city for a week.

After we talked for a bit, he lamented that he only had a week to experience New York.  He said that one week was not enough, but that the time that he had was a lot compared to his friends, who usually only schedule three days for exploring New York because it is so expensive.

As someone who grew up in New York, I know that it can be outrageously expensive, but there are ways to prepare for your trip that will allow you to get the most out of your money and still see everything (including Museums and monuments) and have a great time.

That’s what this week’s podcast is about! Below are the podcast notes to help you find more in depth information on the things that I mention, and if I can answer any additional questions for you, please let me know!

Happy Travels!

EAT CHEAP:

I didn’t mention this in the podcast, but my favorite cheap (but yummy) meals in the city are at Dojos on 4th street, and for breakfast I have always loved the pushcarts that make egg sandwiches (if I can find one).  Also, check out MenuPages to find an inexpensive restaurant in the neighborhood.  You can also use Yelp and Where.

Food trucks are different than pushcarts, and often more expensive, but here is the link to find food trucks which is trendy right now:  http://nyctruckfood.com/
